A Coventry City Premier Club member has added a new ingredient to the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce board.
Sandra Garlick, of De Marco Hunter Solicitors – which has offices in Baginton and Kenilworth – was voted onto the organisation’s board by Chamber members along with president Doug Squires, Amrik Bhabra and Sally Carrick who were all up for re-election.
Garlick is the founding partner of De Marco Hunter Solicitors and plays an active role in the local business community.
She said: “I am delighted to have been elected onto the Board by the Chamber membership.
“As a local business owner, I am fully aware of the challenges faced by many business owners across the region. I am looking forward to working alongside other Board members in the coming years to address the issues which affect our local business community.”
The addition to the board was announced at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting, which was attended by around 80 companies from across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Squires, whose business was the first ever to sign up to the Premier Club five years ago and remains a member, said: “I was delighted to be re-elected and look forward to continuing in my role as president of the Chamber.
“We also welcome back Amrik and Sally, as well as Sandra Garlick onto the board for the first time. We all look forward to continuing to serve businesses in the region.”
Ahead of the official proceedings, Squires gave a background to the local economy and the challenges the region was facing on the back of one of the deepest recessions on record.
“We will have to adapt,” he said. “The Chamber will be here to put forward the case for business and to ensure we get the best deal for businesses.
“Our policy work is key to that and our Quarterly Economic Survey – which feeds into the British Chambers of Commerce’s own survey – is used as a barometer of the economy by the Government and the Bank of England as they decide their economic policy.
“Recent surveys have suggested the economy is performing a little better – a fact borne out by my own engineering business – but there is definitely no room for complacency especially in this ever changing world.
“The new Local Enterprise Partnerships – or LEPs as they are known– are part of that change and our chief executive Louise Bennett has done a great deal of work with partners in the patch to put in a submission for Coventry and Warwickshire to Central Government that, if ratified, would see business playing a major role in many key decisions for the area.”
