COVENTRY City striker Freddy Eastwood said it was a fantastic feeling to become the first ever Sky Blues player to score a hat-trick at the Ricoh Arena.
The Welsh international netted twice in the first half in the 3-2 win over Peterborough United before securing the matchball with the winner 20 minutes from time and becoming the first Coventry City player to net a league hat-trick since Lee Hughes in February 2002.
And the 26-year-old said his performance, which helped hand the Sky Blues their first win in 11 games, went a long way to hopefully shedding the ‘cloud’ that he says has hung over him since hi move to the Ricoh.
“I really thought there was a cloud over me since I moved to the club so to get on the pitch and score a hat-trick means a lot to me and hopefully I can go on to get more,” he said.
“I normally say before a game if I feel confident but I didn’t say anything today so to get the first two goals early doors set me up for the rest of the game.
“No matter where I’ve played this season I’ve always put the effort in to do a good job for the team so hopefully we can use this result to kick on up the table.
“With the run we’ve been on recently we obviously don’t want to get too excited about tonight’s result because Plymouth on Saturday will be another completely different game.
“But we dug in after they got there goals, stuck together as a team and it was important that we stayed solid late on so I’m delighted with the points.”
